LIFE EXPERIENCE

Being the daughter of a corporate executive, Julie was lucky enough to have lived on three different continents by the time she was in high school (North America, Europe, and Asia). This was highly formative, and because of those experiences of being the “other”, she has a desire for helping those who feel they don’t have a voice. From her own experience and in helping others, she believes when we feel nurtured and safe in relationships, we shine—it creates an opportunity for us to grow into our best selves.

She’s been married for 20 years, and her husband, Dave (linked above) and she have had to fight for their marriage. Their marriage hasn’t always been easy, and she truly understand the heartache, frustration, and hopelessness (and sometimes rage, ha!) that can accompany hurt relationships. They’ve had some amazing therapists and she wholeheartedly believes that the skills they learned in therapy, alongside their hard work, helped them to grow as individuals and as a couple. She brings those years of lived experience with her into the therapy room. She’s passionate about getting to the core of the issue(s), and teaching practical tools to help couples experience relief, a better sense of connectedness, and even joy.

Julie is also a mother of three children, and suffered from postpartum anxiety and depression with her first two kids. Parenthood can be extremely isolating and emotionally taxing, and she has a tender spot in her heart for those who are in the throws of it.

When she’s not in the office, Julie likes to be outside and with those she loves. She’s a voracious learner. She tends to gravitate towards deep and meaningful conversations. She may have a slight cribbage board obsession. She likes long walks in nature, knitting, campfires under starlit nights, playing games, good books, and connecting with others.

Julie’s Client Base

Julie has a wide range of clients, and those who find the most help with her tend to be motivated for change, willing to be introspective, and engaged in the process. Julie is highly empathic, genuinely cares for her clients, and has a compassionately direct approach in her work with others.

Julie loves working with individuals (18+), couples, and parents. Julie believes she’s had the best of both worlds: she grew up as an expatriate’s daughter, and also has been married to a creative entrepreneur with a zest for creating new ventures. This lends itself to her ease in helping those who are entrepreneurs, small business owners, and also those who are corporate executives, and everything in between.

As a fellow healer, Julie is also quite comfortable working with those who have the same calling, sometimes with a slightly different twist: therapists, nurses, musicians, lawyers, doctors and clergy members are all deserving of some TLC, and it can be so restorative to have another person pour into them, as they constantly pour into the lives of others.

Those who have the title of '“mom” or “dad” are also in need of respite. Julie is passionate about helping young couples or individuals as they transition into parenthood, as she’s well aware of just how difficult the journey can be. Julie also realizes that sometimes kids aren’t in the picture at all, and there are still relational issues. She has an abundance of trainings and lived experience that make her a great fit for those in need of some relational tweaks, or even a serious overhaul. She also loves working with retired (or close to retirement aged) people, as they transition from one phase of life to the next. No matter what life throws at you, Julie’s gentle spirit will help navigate the path towards restoration. Her clients will attest to not knowing how to get there—and that’s quite all right, because that’s what Julie excels at.

While the changes in life aren’t always easy, Julie’s steady and calm approach makes her a natural for working with those who’ve suffered from trauma. Always striving to meet clients where they’re at, Julie’s comfortable working with the range of dissociation and dissociative disorders.

Julie’s not a ‘brief therapist’, and she likes to get to the core of the issue so that her clients experience long-lasting change and relief. While she doesn’t have a one-size fits all approach, she typically likes to understand the why we are the way we are, and then work towards the change we want to see. Julie has a non-pathologizing and non-judgmental approach to life, and she strives to make the therapeutic space a welcoming and affirming one. She would be honored to work with you.

A few words from Julie…

Authenticity- Brene Brown said it best: Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It's about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.” This can be scary and hard, and I’d be honored to work alongside you to help let your authentic, beautiful self shine.

Affirmation- I welcome clients ready to change and grow, I value cultural and gender identity and love that families come in all shapes and sizes.

I support LGBTQIA individuals and families. My practice is open to all new and expecting parents and individuals who need help regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender orientation, etc.
