Progress, not perfection
What it’s like to get started…
Step 1
What are you looking for?
Fill out a form (see below) with details around your reasons for exploring therapy at this time, or read up on our team and choose a person you feel is a good fit for you.
Step 2
Initial Consultation
We can do a complimentary 15-minute consultation to outline goals for therapy, answer any questions, and see if there’s a good fit.
Let’s Go!
Dig in, Let go
We will do an initial session to outline goals for therapy, probe for the root of problems, and establish a plan. From there, set up ongoing sessions to fit your therapy goals.
"Nothing ever goes away until it has taught us what we need to know."
— Pema Chödrön, 1997
What to expect
Our sessions are typically 53 minutes in length. We like to meet weekly, especially at the onset of therapy, although it could be less frequent depending on your needs. During our first session, we’ll go over the paperwork you’ve filled out, review office policies, and then ask some questions about what you’re hoping to get from our meetings. We want to hear your story, and what brought you into therapy. We like to start by asking some questions about your family of origin, and we’ll spend some time making a genogram (kind of like a family tree). We may spend part of the next session finishing up your genogram, and during this time we can also figure out if we’re the best fit for each other to help you meet your treatment goals. Research has shown that one of the most important aspects is the therapeutic relationship--so it’s really important that we both feel like we’re a good fit for each other.
What next?
We’ll meet weekly, and during our work together, we welcome your feedback. We prefer a collaborative approach with our clients, so think of it like you and your therapist, as a team, tackling your treatment goals. It’s very important you feel our time together is working for you and meeting your needs. So, we may ask you from time to time how you feel about our work together and your progress toward your goals. Our intention is to find the right approach for you to help you reach your treatment goals.
Graduating from therapy
The ultimate goal is for you to feel like you have the skills you need to combat whatever comes your way. We’ll discuss when this time feels right to change the frequency of therapy or discontinue treatment (graduate!). Our last session is a commemorative event, celebrating all your hard work and growth. It’s a special and meaningful way to end consistent therapy sessions. And while you may have graduated, it’s also common for people to come back for tune-ups if they feel they could use some additional support for new issues as they arise.
